Betsy’s Healthy Concept
“You are what you eat.” This is a philosophy that I have been told as a little girl, but today brings a lot more meaning to me as a nutrition professional. What we feed our bodies not only effects how we look and feel, but how long we live and the quality of life we will have. We live in a medical society that is taking the focus away from treatment and emphasizing prevention. Many of the diseases that affect our society are related to our lifestyle habits, and with small changes can facilitate improvements in health. My focus is to work with individuals on creating healthy lifestyle habits that they can incorporate on a daily basis so that they can continue to improve health for the long-term. I believe it takes a team approach to improve health and finding the right balance of diet and exercise and motivation that are unique to the individual is the key to success.”

Leslie was born and raised here in Naples, FL and became interested in nutrition and fitness early on in life. She graduated from Lely High School in Naples, and then pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at Florida State University. She also completed child development and psychology minors while at Florida State, which gave her better insight into the emotional attachment to foods we choose.
Upon completing her Bachelor’s degree she applied to Florida International University to begin her Master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. This allowed Leslie grow her passion for nutrition as well as to learn more about students’ health behaviors, because she strongly believes in developing healthy habits early on in life. Leslie completed her dietetic internship in Miami, working at the St. Anne’s Nursing center, Broward County Public School System, and the Miami Veterans Affairs Hospital.
She is also an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and group fitness instructor and she appreciates the importance of combining both fitness and nutrition to create balance while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
